Heavy Rain Expected As Yellow Weather Warning Issued
The hot weather of the past few days looks set to come to an end – with a yellow weather warning for severe rain issued for Wales.
This week temperatures in Wrexham soared to almost 30C, however temperatures over the next few days are expected to be cooler if and when the heavy rain arrives.
A yellow weather warning for severe rain in has been issued and is valid from 7pm on Friday 3rd July straight through till midday on Saturday 4th July. It should be noted however that the Met Office are currently forecasting heavy rain spells across Wrexham for this afternoon as well.
Along with the heavy rain there is also the chance of thunderstorms across the next 48+ hours as well.
A statement on the Met Office website notes: “A band of heavy rain and thunderstorms is expected to move northeastwards this afternoon and evening. This may produce locally very intense rainfall rates over a brief period of time, with hail, lightning and gusty winds additional hazards. The public should be aware of the potential for some very localised significant disruption due to a combination of these elements.”
The Chief Forecaster’s assessment also reads: “An active cold front moving northeastwards will become unstable as it encounters warm, moist air ahead of it. This is likely to lead to some heavy rain and thunderstorms, perhaps forming a narrow band which moves northeastwards across NE Wales, the north Midlands and northern England this afternoon and evening, clearing northeast England towards dusk.
“Whilst not lasting for very long in any given place, rainfall is likely to be briefly very intense with hail, locally combining with lightning and gusty winds to lead to disruption, especially where this coincides with this evening’s busy travel period.”
For those not enjoying the recent heatwave temperatures are also expected to be somewhat cooler than the past few days, with Friday reaching highs of 23C and Saturday 21C.
