Are you interested in finding out more about Wrexham Council’s decision making process? Or do you just want to keep an eye on what your elected officials say and do in meetings? If the answer is yes, then it could be worth tuning into watch council meetings online.

Wrexham Council have been webcasting a number of their meetings since 2014 and with meetings set to recommence in September after the summer break, residents are being encouraged to tune in and see the decision making process from themselves.

Branded as ‘better value than Sky’ by one councillor earlier this year, Wrexham Council broadcast their Full Council, Planning and Executive Board meetings each month.

Whilst there can be some less than exciting items on the agenda, more often than not important decisions topics close to everyone’s hearts, such as education, health, social care and the environment are made by councillors.

Wrexham Council say that 130 people viewed the Planning Committee on 31 July and 135 viewed Executive Board on 11 July. However it is hoped that this number will grow over the coming months, with more and more people will tune in and join the discussion.

A look at the Forward Work Programme shows there are lots of topical things up for discussion over the next few months, including the naming and management of Wrexham’s arts hub, a consultation on a new Welsh medium school, Syrian Vulnerable Persons Relocation Scheme and everyone’s favourite subject – councillors pay!

If you can’t tune in at the time of the meeting, then fear not! You can watch from the Wrexham Council archive which goes back up to six months.

For those hardcore Wrexham Councils fans, you can also watch the meetings on the go via your mobile or tablet (along with a computer in the comfort of your own home).

Scrutiny Committees have also been webcast in the past, including one on how Wrexham Council deal with discarded needles and substance abuse in Wrexham.

If you’ve already viewed on of our webcasts – either live or from the archive please Wrexham Council say they would ‘love to know if you found it useful’ and this will help when the local authority comes to decide if we are going to continue webcasting in the future.
