A new record could have been set locally, with a Councillor appearing as Father Christmas at almost a dozen separate local events this Christmas time.

Cllr Andrew Atkinson, who represents the Gresford ward, took on the role as the jolly bearded man in the red suit at 11 charity and playgroup / nursery events in Wrexham over the festive period.

Such appearances included Christmas fetes at Garden Village Playgroup and Acton, home visits, a tour through Marford and Rossett and a couple in his Gresford ward.

Now that Christmas has been and gone, Cllr Atkinson told Wrexham.com that although it had been a busy few weeks, he had no intention of ‘sacking it off’ in 2018.

Cllr Atkinson said: “I’ve really enjoyed being Santa this year but I’m also looking forward to a break after so many events!

“I think the first one I did was in Caia Park a few years ago and people have just kept asking since.

Cllr Atkinson said: “The events have ranged from half an hour to around seven hours but I’m really happy to do it as it raises good money for playgroups, community groups and charities.

He added he was happy to beat the record in 2018 – so anyone looking for a Father Christmas get in touch with him –
“I’m sure it’ll be just as busy next year!”
