Betsi Cadwaladar University Health Board have rejected a request by Alyn Family Doctors to effectively close the Gresford health centre.

In April Alyn Family Doctors, who also operate surgeries in Llay and Rossett, announced plans to ‘transfer the GP services’ of the Gresford surgery to its other two sites.

A statement issued by Alyn Family Doctors at the time explained: “We are sorry to announce that we are applying to the Betsi Cadwaladar University Health Board to consider a proposal to transfer all GP services at Gresford health centre to Rossett Surgery and Llay Health Centre.”

Today local councillor Andrew Atkinson has told us: “Alyn Family Doctors application to move ahead with their plans to close Gresford Health Centre has been rejected by the health board panel.

“Thank you so very much to everyone that has helped continue to make this case and to all of the residents of Gresford, Marford and surrounding villages that supported our campaign, Cllr Gilmartin and I are very grateful.

“I will be back in touch with the health board to see how the practice can be assisted on the current site. Neither Cllr Gilmartin nor myself have ever supported these plans but we know that the practice do need help and support from the health board to ensure a viable practice for now and into the future.

“There is still a lot of work to do but we are delighted with the decision and thank the health board for listening to us, engaging with us and taking our residents concerns seriously.”
