Get Involved With The Erddig Apple Food Challenge!
Those of you who remember the Wrexham Burger earlier this year will know just how popular it was, and now there is a new challenge for food outlets to get involved in!
With the 25th anniversary of the Erddig Apple Festival approaching on 3/4th October this year, the National Trust has teamed up with the Destination Wrexham team to give local cafés, restaurants and food outlets the chance to develop a dish which is based around one of the 170 varieties of apple grown on the Erddig estate.
The challenge will be for local chefs and cooks to develop a dish with a ‘twist’ that will get new customers through their doors during September, wow the mystery shoppers who will be out and about and ultimately challenge for the winning prize of showcasing the dish at the popular festival.

Paul Groom, Enterprise and Business Development Manager at Erddig Hall & Gardens in Wrexham explained: “We’ve worked closely with the Destination Wrexham team to come up with some exciting ideas to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Erddig Apple Festival. This food challenge will enable us to not only raise the profile of the festival, but also encourage as many restaurants, cafes and hotels to think creatively about making a dish that will really stand out.”
Joe Bickerton, Destination Manager at Wrexham County Borough Council added: “The team at Erddig are great supporters of the wider appeal of North East Wales as a visitor destination and their role in encouraging other businesses to get involved and take inspiration from this year’s apple festival really highlights this.”
Joe went on to say: “Our Wrexham Burger challenge earlier this year attracted a lot of new business for local eateries and we’re really hoping that this can happen again, as well as showcasing the amazing culinary talent that we have in this area. Wrexham has one of the fastest growing tourism economies in Wales and food excellence plays a big part in this – so we’re always listening when we’re approached with new ideas to develop this theme.”
The competition is open to eateries within the Wrexham County Borough area serving food and open at least 5-days per week.
To register your product or for more information please email [email protected] before 5pm on Friday 28th August 2015. Entrants must also be able to attend a launch event at 2.00pm on Tuesday 1st September at Erddig to register their dish.
