Update: The road has since reopened, with Wales & West Utilities giving us an update.

A spokesperson for Wales & West Utilities  told us just before midnight:

“We were alerted to reports of the smell of gas at a house on Holt Road, Wrexham, this evening and immediately sent an engineer to the scene.

“On arrival, our engineer found that a gas appliance in an unoccupied house had been left on. Our engineer made the gas supply safe. No evidence of a gas leak was found.

“As a precaution, the emergency services had evacuated several homes in the area and closed Holt Road. The residents have now returned to their homes and the road reopened.

“If anyone smells gas, or suspects the presence of Carbon Monoxide, they should call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 and our engineers will be there to help, any time of day or night.”

Original information:

Part of Holt Road is closed off this evening by police, with residents telling us they believe it is due to a gas leak.
