Gareth Thomas & You To Turn On Wrexham’s Christmas Lights!
As the nights continue drawing in and temperatures begin to plummet, Wrexham will see a welcome dose of warmth and merriment to the winter evenings when this year’s Christmas lights are switched on – by Welsh rugby legend and Celebrity Big Brother Star Gareth Thomas, alongside – you!
Gareth was at one point the most capped rugby union player in Wales’ history and was the first Welshman to hit one hundred international caps. Alongside his other rugby feats he is the second highest try scorer for Wales!
Locally Gareth has appeared for the Wales national rugby league team at the Racecourse against Italy, as well as playing for the Crusaders Rugby League team when they were in the Super League.
This year he will also star as THE GENIE in the Rhos Stiwt theatre’s production of ALADDIN.
One LUCKY person could win the opportunity to help switch on the Wrexham Christmas lights in Queen’s Square on Thursday, November 22 by entering a very simple competition (details below!).
The lights switch on marks the start of late night shopping in the town centre, and the start of festivities around the town. The event is FREE to attend and promises fun for all the family.
The fun will start at 5:15pm, where crowds will gather for the build up to the big lights switch on at just after 6:30pm! Simultaneously looking skywards, as the town centre lights up, there will also be a fantastic firework display in the skies above Wrexham.
This year sees Calon FM compering the evening, with a host of guest performances including Wrexham’s own Heal The Last Stand and a special appearance by the Mayor Of Wrexham, Tudur and Anni from S4C’s ‘STWNSH’, The Delta Academy – plus The Stiwt’s Panto Cast!
A pop-up festive market will surround Queen’s Square with unique gifts and tasty food for sale. Wrexham Lager will also be in attendance supplying their world famous drink!

To be in with a chance To Turn On Wrexham’s Lights all you need is a mobile phone and a correct answer. Entrants simply have to answer the following question correctly:
Where is the event taking place?

Texts cost £1.00 + 1 std text msg per entry. You will get a text back confirming if you have the right or wrong answer – and you can enter several times to increase your chances of winning.

The winner will be randomly drawn and announced on Wednesday 21st November. The winner will be contacted at 5pm on the 21st. If we are not able to contact the first drawn correct answer inside a reasonable timeframe we will re-draw until it is possible.
