Wrexham's Regent Street on which both the Game and Gamestation stores are based.

The future remains unclear for two of Wrexham’s major gaming stores after their troubled parent company refused to confirm which stores would be closing.

The Game Group, which owns both the Game and Gamestation stores on Regent Street, is set to close 35 stores nationwide with rumours rife locally that either one or both of the Wrexham stores would be closing.

Earlier in the week it was announced that the Game Group would not be stocking any titles by major gaming supplier EA.

The firm has faced credit insurance problems which are believed to be the cause of the latest supplier issue.

A spokesperson for the group said: “Our store closure programme is on track as we aim for about 550 stores in the UK by Christmas 2013. We currently have 610 stores, and the closure programme is ongoing. Last week we informed the store teams and landlords of 35 stores of our intention to close.

“As always, we have a detailed plan to help customers to move to another local store or online, and we make every effort to support our people and redeploy them if possible.”

However, they refused to comment on which stores would be affected by the closures.
