There have been further reports of scam HMRC callers targeting residents in the Wrexham area.

This year appears to have had an upsurge of UK based telephone numbers calling residents with various scary messages from scammers to entice action.

Polie said yesterday: “We have been made aware of unsolicited telephone calls being received in the Gwersyllt and Bradley areas of Wrexham. Some calls claim that the resident owes money to the tax office (HMRC) and that they are going to be taken to court for none payment, other calls relate to telephone bills not being paid.”

“This is an attempt to steal money from you, HMRC would not contact you in this way.”

As a result a reminder has been issued that if you receive cold calls from a person claiming to be from an organisation or service provider known to you, do not pass on any information.

Put the phone down and contact the organisation, or service provider they claim to be from, using a telephone number obtained from a trusted source (ie recent letter or bill), not a number provided by the telephone cold caller.
