More people are visiting the town’s police station after the move to by the library in Wrexham town centre.

Wrexham’s police had a base in the old 1970’s police tower, however with that set to be knocked down and replaced with a supermarket they moved across the car park to a section of the council’s Crown Buildings.

Three weeks ago the town’s new police station by the library opened its doors, so we asked Inspector Vic Powell how things were in the new facility.

Insp Powell told us: “Everybody is really chuffed with the building, it really is a great facility.

“Everything is tickety-boo, the hard thing has been setting it up from scratch along with doing the day job, but its good, really good.”

In the first two weeks he said footfall had significantly increased to the front desk, with people reporting issues, looking for support, asking advice and also accessing lost and found property.

“I wonder how many of those enquires would have come over to Crown or even in the tower?” said Insp Powell.

“Perhaps people are thinking ‘I am in the Guildhall or town this morning or I can pop to the library. so I will pop in to the police’.

“It can only be a good thing to increase the interaction between us and the good people of Wrexham.”

We are told some IT bits need finishing in the station, including the ‘all singing and all dancing’ future proofed briefing kit.

He added: “I cant think of anything bad to say about it, I have looked to find fault, but I cant.

“It is a great facility, it has been worth every day of the wait.”

One concern about having the large HQ in Llay and a smaller station in town was response times would be reduced, we asked if after 2-3 weeks the response times we comparable to the previous normal.

Insp Powell said: “Better I would say, we are not perfect obviously, and there will always be someone who says they waited X number of days.

“We can’t please all the people all the time, but we can deliver where we think we need to deliver from a demand point of view.”

Just before opening we were kindly given a quick tour of the new town police station, with the video below…
