Free Play Day event returning to Wrexham town centre tomorrow!
Thousands of people are set to visit Wrexham town centre tomorrow to take part in the annual Play Day event.
Both Llwyn Isaf / Library Field and Queens Square will be transformed into a giant play area for children and families – with visitors encouraged to bring along a playful mood and some clothes you don’t mind getting wet and messy.
Taking place between midday and 4pm, this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever with more activities for people to enjoy.
Already work setting up Play Day in the town is underway, with the giant sandpit (always a popular feature) making its return back to the town centre.
Previous years have also seen slip and slides on Llwyn Isaf, craft activities, sports, the ‘floor is lava’ game and much more for people to enjoy.
The weather is also looking in favour of tomorrow’s event, with highs of 20C and sunshine forecast.
Held on the first Wednesday of August every year, the free event aims to highlight a child’s right to play and encourages people to recognise the value of playing to children, their families and their local communities.
Last year and estimated 4,000 people attended Play Day over the four hour period – with a number of town centre businesses noticing a boost in trade throughout the event.
Wrexham Council has also announced there will be free parking available in some of its car parks to help give a further boost to the event.
A statement issued by the council, says: “In order to ensure the town can maximise from the thousands expected to attend this year’s event there will be no parking charges in most town centre council car parks after 10 am in town centre car parks.
“Charges will apply before this time and this will be strictly enforced.”
Free parking will not be offered at the Tŷ Pawb multi story carpark
Council Leader Mark Pritchard, added: “I am delighted to announce free parking for this event.
“Thousands of local children will descend on Llwyn Isaf and Queens Square and have a great time getting wet, messy and usually very tired by the end of the day.
“My thanks to all involved in organising this event and I hope everyone has a fantastic day.”
