Free Parking & Small Business Saturday Success For Wrexham
Bad weather didn’t stop shoppers visiting Wrexham on Saturday – with thousands taking advantage of free parking to do their Christmas shopping, visit Santa and support Wrexham’s small businesses.
Saturday symbolised Small Business Saturday, an annual event that encourages people to shop local and support the local businesses in your area. The event initially began in America, however over the past few years the event has generated in popularity in the UK.
This is the fourth year Wrexham has taken part in the event – with a street festival held to coincide with this year’s Small Business Saturday event.
Due to the bad weather there was a last minute decision to move the Street Festival and Small Business Saturday stalls into the People’s Market – many of which were located in the two arcades.
Across the market there were a number of stalls selling Christmas gifts, flowers, wreaths, homemade jewellery, cakes, chutneys
There was also live entertainment throughout the day from the likes of Rossett Primary School, Dancing Shoes, Wrexham Community Choir, Storytelling by Jacqui Blore – and also some cracking Christmas songs from Ysgol Bro Alun.
The event coincided with the opening of Santa’s Grotto in the People’s Market, which as you would expect was a popular attraction for many coming into town. Throughout the day there were long queues to see the man himself, however for those of you who missed him, Santa will be in his Grotto right up until Christmas Eve!
Of course along with Small Business Saturday, the town also benefited from free parking – with many braving the gale force winds to take advantage of the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping!
Elsewhere across the town there was plenty going on for shoppers to enjoy, including ‘Find the Elf’ at the Butchers Market and a visit from Olaf in the General Market.
Since Saturday Wrexham.com have spoken to several traders who commented on how busy the town centre was and how the car parks were all ‘packed’. One trader even stated that town was ‘how it used to be’ with lots of shoppers visiting.
