A unique gaming event that features guest talks from some of the biggest names in the industry will take place in Wrexham tomorrow.

Computer gamers with the ambition to follow their passion and pursue a career in the industry will get to hear from some of the faces behind the creation of the Lego and Tomb Raider games at a free event at Glyndwr University.

InitGame, which takes place tomorrow is being hosted by Glyndŵr University to help anyone with an interest in the games industry to find out more about its rewards and challenges.

The free event features interactive sessions and talks from programmers and developers working on some of the industry’s most well-known franchises. These include two employees from TT Games, which produces LEGO video games.

A Q&A session on CVs, job interviews and compiling a portfolio will follow the talks.

The event starts at 1pm and will finish with a Local Area Network gaming session sponsored by the British Computer Society and run by students from Glyndŵr University’s Computer Society.

Co-organiser Richard Hebblewhite, senior lecturer in computing at Glyndŵr University, set up InitGame in conjunction with colleagues from Games Dev North Wales, a social group aimed at anyone connected with the games industry who live or work in North Wales.

Richard said: “We came up with the idea a few months ago with the ambition that Initgame will become a useful annual event for everyone with an interest in the games industry.

“It’s designed to give everyone an insight into the workings of small, medium and large studios within the games industry.

“We’ve put together a strong line-up of speakers including one of our own graduates so it should serve as a great opportunity for people to see what our students go on to achieve when they leave.”

Guest speakers at Initgame are: Ella Romanos, co-founder and commercial director at Strike Game Labs; Gaz Thomas, owner and founder of The Game Homepage; Chris Payne, senior game mechanics programmer at Traveller’s Tales; James Lay, Lego construction artist at Traveller’s Tales; Steve Craft, co-founder of PawPrint Games; writer and artist Murti Schofield and Carl Dalton, founder and creative director at Brain in a Jar.

BAFTA Wales and the British Computer Society are supporting the event.

InitGame is a ticket-only event and registration can be made free of charge at www.initgame.org
