Free food available on Christmas Eve for Wrexham families

A local campaign aimed at spreading festive cheer by offering free food to households across Wrexham is returning this Christmas.

Given to Shine is a project run by the North Wales Nappy Collaborative CIC, a community interest company focused on supporting the use of reusable nappies and tackling all forms of poverty.

The volunteers collect fresh food from local supermarkets that would ultimately go to waste and offer it free of charge to residents across Wrexham.

There are various collection points across the town and Wrexham’s Assembly Member, Lesley Griffiths has once again signed up to the initiative.

The local AM will open her constituency office on Rhosddu Road between 1pm and 3:30pm on Christmas Eve to help distribute the food.

Ms Griffiths, who will be supported on the day by former MP Ian Lucas, said: “Given to Shine is an excellent initiative, salvaging food that would otherwise have gone to waste and offering it to local residents.

“The volunteers do a wonderful job and it is heart-warming to see the local community coming together at Christmas to help those in need.

Food available is expected to be predominantly seasonal vegetables and bread. Anyone is welcome to attend and the Given to Shine team just ask people to bring their own bags.
