Former Village Pub To Be Demolished & Replaced With Housing
Proposals to demolish a former village pub and develop housing on the land were passed unanimously last night.
In Wrexham’s first Planning Meeting of 2015 councillors voted in favour of the demolition of the Brynteg Inn, Brynteg and to use the land for the erection of eight houses.
The application was welcomed by Councillor Barbara Roxburgh who said the ‘building is deteriorating by the day’ and that more housing is needed.
The Brynteg Inn has remained vacant since its closure in 2012, with the application’s planning documents stating that ‘there has been no firm interest in the site or any offers made to purchase the site to run the business as a community facility’.
However there was fierce opposition against the development from local residents, with 86 people signing a petition against the proposals. Concerns raised by those who signed the petition included loss of a public house in the area, the future increase of traffic flows, the construction phase of the proposed development and loss of privacy to neighbouring residents.
Within the initial application, officer stated that: “The proposed development seeks to utilise the existing site entrance which would provide adequate visibility standards.”
The report itself was passed quickly by councillors, with the Board voting unanimously in favour of the proposed development.
