A football club is seeking permission to replace several portacabins with a new community facility.

Players for Rhos Aelwyd FC have been using a series of temporary cabins on Ponciau Playing Fields to get changed for decades. However, the club now wants to demolish them to create a new building which can be used by the whole village.

The new structure would include changing rooms, spectator toilets and a community room.

In a planning statement written on the club’s behalf, Blueprint Architectural Services said: “We have been approached by our client, to obtain the necessary planning approval for the football changing rooms and community building on Ponciau Banks playing fields.

“The proposed structure is to replace the existing structure currently occupying the site.

“This is a structure which has been in situ for decades, seemingly not the intended timeframe for the building.

“To benefit the local community as well as the long-standing football team, which was founded in 1943, the building will be used as a multi-functional building, with spectator toilets, and a community room which could if needed be used as a third changing room.”

A kitchen has been included in the plans to allow the football club to continue providing spectators with snacks and hot drinks. Security rails will also be installed to prevent the building from being vandalised.

The proposals will be considered by Wrexham Council at a later date.
