A male has been arrested in relation to a vehicle break-in in Wrexham Town Centre.

Speaking this morning at July’s Town Centre Forum Meeting, Town Centre Inspector Paul Wycherley told forum members that there has been an ‘explosion’ of car crime in the town centre recently, with incidents stretching from Tesco through to the Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

Inspector Wycherley said: “We have arrested who we believed to be the culprit during a foot chase. He has been interviewed, charged and will appear in court. He told us point blank he is looking through car windows for things to steal.”

Earlier this morning Inspector Wycherley also tweeted to say: “1 caught after foot chase @wrexham stealing from cars. Full admission. He said he was looking for items on display in cars! THINK!!”

Last week Wrexham.com reported that a number of staff vehicles parked at the Wrexham Maelor car park were broken into over night and a number of items were stolen.

The incident resulted in five vehicles being subjected to criminal damage, with many have the side and rear windows of their vehicles smashed. Amongst the items stolen were Sat-navs, trainers and golfing equipment.

Inspector Wycherley added that there is a ‘problem with car crime at the moment’ and that during a recent patrol round the town, 46 vehicles with items such as iphones, chargers and cash were left visible on seats in the car.

A reminder has been issued to motorists to either take items with you when leaving the car or do not leave them out on display when you are not in your vehicle.
