A Freedom of Information (FOI) request has revealed the extent of crime which has taken place on construction sites around Wrexham during the last year.

According to figures obtained from North Wales Police 33 incidents took place on the town’s construction sites between December 2010 and November 2011 including arson, burglary and ABH.

Three instances of arson were recorded compared to zero in the rest of North Wales.

Whilst the location of the attacks are not disclosed in order to protect vulnerable sites, former Wrexham FC owners Geoff Moss and Ian Roberts reported an alleged arson attack on the building site of the Wrexham Village development in May last year.

Other crimes reported include one account of Actual Bodily Harm (ABH), one of common assault and a vehicle theft.

The most prevalent crime was burglary which accounted for one third of construction site crime with 11 instances followed by theft with nine.

An eye opening log of 61 items that were either damaged, stolen, recovered or seized during the incidents includes commercial power tools, gasoline, scrap metal, boots and shoes, batteries, clothes, mobile phones, a radio and even a stove.
