A major Welsh music festival will be held at one of Wrexham’s most historic buildings in April.

Focus Wales is a brand new music festival and conference, which will take place for the main part in St Giles Parish Church over the 19th, 20th and 21st of April this year.

The weekend will also see many other music venues and spaces taken over for the festival and showcasing live music throughout the day and night.

The aim of the event is to provide a platform for music from Wales, regardless of language or genre and with over 70 live acts appearing across various venues this year there’s plenty to please all tastes.

The grand tradition of folk acoustic and roots music will be very well represented this year, with most of the performances in this field taking place in the breathtaking 15th century parish church and features not only some familiar names, but a clutch of rising stars who are set to make it big in 2012.

Jodie Marie will headline the Thursday night (19th April) at St Giles Church; the young singer songwriter was signed up by the famous Decca records and her single “I got you” was A listed in January by Radio 2.

Also appearing on the Thursday are Wrexham’s Heal The Last Stand and the fantastic guitarist and composer Gareth Bonello AKA The Gentle Good who is fresh from taking part in a musical exchange project in rural China.

Jamie Smith’s Mabon take charge on the Friday (20th April) at St Giles, performing their mix of virtuoso interceltic instrumentals alongside Cardiff’s Sion Russell Jones, North Wales’s very own travelling troubadour Andy Hickie, Brighton’s Common Tongues and singer songwriter Holly McGarry from Idaho, USA.

Also appearing over the genre spanning weekend are The Whip, Y Niwl, Masters in France, Gallops, Race Horses, Bastions and many more.
