After several months of consultation, planning and preparation, Wrexham’s new town centre Post Office has officially opened.

The new Crown Post Office, which is now located on the first floor of WHSmith on Hope Street opened the doors to its new branch on Thursday 18th August.

Rumours the Post Office was due to move to WHSmith had been mooted for over 18 months.

These rumours were confirmed in April 2016 when the Post Office confirmed they had signed a ten year agreement with WHSmith to relocate 61 branches into the retail space over the next twelve months.

WHSmith already operates 107 Post Office branches from their stores. However Wrexham’s town centre branch has become the latest to make the move to WHSmith.

Access to the new Post Office has been one of the main concerns during the consultation process / plans to move to WHSmith were launched. There are two ways to access the Post Office; up the flight of stairs or via the lift at the back of the store – which takes you directly into the new branch.

On the ground floor the store largely remains the same, however it does appear that some space has been made between some of the aisles for those looking to access the lift.

For those unable to access the first floor, the Post Office have stated ‘alternative arrangements will be made to serve them on the ground floor’.

The Post Office move means this is the first time the first floor of WHSmith has been open to the public in a number of months.

Upstairs the first floor has been divided into two sections, with the bulk of the space being taken up by the Post Office. As with the Henblas Street branch there are several customer service tills, travel and business, a small meeting space and also self scan / checkout.

The second section of the floor has been converted into a ‘Clearance Outlet’, comprising of reduced price books and stationery. One customer told us they are ‘sorted for Christmas’ after having a browse in there after using the Post Office!

For anyone looking for a part-time job WHSmith are looking for someone to work 16 hours a week in their new clearance section!
