Donations have been flooding in to help sustain firecrews fighting the mountain fires above Llangollen, with such a tremendous response they have been asked to be paused for now.

There are 12 appliances at the fire in Llantysilio, tackling the fires in what are described as ‘difficult conditions’. With the fire ongoing for several days a local collection was started at Wrexham Morrisons with donations dropped off at the fire and rescue station “to help our firefighters that are battling the Llangollen wild fire”.

This afternoon the North Wales Fire and Rescue service said: “Big thank you for donations of food and drink to our firefighters tackling the fire at Llangollen – really appreciated by staff.

“We currently have enough supplies so kindly ask not contact us to offer any more – we will let people know if this changes. #Thanks #TrulyAppreciated”

This morning police closed off the Horseshoe Pass to avoid sightseers interfering with the firefighting effort.

Earlier Simon Clemence from the Pondarosa Cafe at the top of the pass said: “All emergency are doing a fantastic job in very difficult conditions we are keeping them all fed and watered.”

Llangollen website Llanblogger has a longer article on the local efforts to support the firecrews, including details of one woman from a local business who has co-ordinated an appeal to keep the supplies flowing which had raised over £1,000 within hours of being set up.
