Senior staff at the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service have expressed their disappointment at the attack on crews last night.

As we reported last night fire crews had fireworks thrown at them in Wrexham, believed to be the Brynteg area.

Stuart Millington, Senior Operations Manager for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We are really disappointed that our firefighters had to experience fireworks being thrown at them last night in Wrexham.

“We will not tolerate this type of abuse directed towards our staff. Our crews were working hard last night to ensure that members of the public could enjoy a safe bonfire night and firefighters having fireworks thrown at them is completely unacceptable.”

“We are thankful that in North Wales incidents of this nature are rare when considering the number of calls we attend each year.”

Police said last night, “Please do not endanger lives with such mindless acts. Our officers will deal robustly with anyone seen acting in this way.”

Local residents commented overnight on the incident with Tracey saying, “I live in Brynteg the fire service has been up here twice tonight, kids nicking bins setting them on fire, throwing fireworks at police, they are a bloody pain in the arse.”

Karen said, “It was my husband that was on call and a large rocket missed him by inches – the police did nothing at all – if it had been me I would of turned the hose on the shits – it wasn’t just lads a blonde girl was seen with this group of low lifes.”

Sian added, “The adults who bought them are just as bad for giving them to the kids.”

Cllr Pemberton who represents Ponciau branded the youths ‘scum’.
