Fire at Kronospan in Chirk

A fire has broken out at the Kronospan plant in Chirk this lunchtime.

Update 12:15pm: North Wales Fire and Rescue have said “Firefighters from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at a fire at Kronospan, Chirk. The call was received at 11.14hrs today. Crews from Chirk, Wrexham and Llangollen are in attendance together with an aerial ladder platform from Wrexham.

“The fire is confined to a conveyor belt on top of a silo. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

“There are no reports of any injuries.”

Local fire crews are attending, and were called just before 11:15am.

With Jan sending us this image of the smoke, noting a large amount of fire crews were attending:

The campaign twitter account “Clean Air For Chirk” tweeted the top image, saying: “You can see the flames. Hope no one is hurt. But time they where brought under control”

Local Councillor and Executive Board member Cllr Terry Evans published the below image of the smoke, calling it a ‘major pollution’
