“Festive Friday” in Wrexham town centre has been branded a success.

The event, which is the last Friday before Christmas, is traditionally the most popular night for office parties and nights out before the festive season gets fully underway.

Last week Wrexham.com reported that police had a large operation planned over the weekend to ensure those out enjoying the town’s night time economy while celebrating the Christmas period could do so safely.

Work was also carried out on the night by the ambulance service, members of the town’s Nightsafe, welfare centre, council.

Wrexham Town Inspector Vic Powell said: “Town was busy, there were lots out and on the whole it was really good natured. The demand created was minimal.

“There were around 10 drug seizures. Rufus the police dog was really good, we went through some pubs on the outskirts and after 10pm he was in the town centre. There were some positive indications and they will be dealt with in accordance.”

He added: “We had increased staffing in the town to pick up with the additional demand we were anticipating.

“It was a positive evening, a lot of hard work went into it. There was benefit to the whole exercise and virtually everyone went home safely.”
