The February winner of the Wonders of Wrexham 2018 Calendar photography competition has been announced – making it two in a row for one local photographer!

Judges were once again very impressed with the quality of entries and a tie breaker had to take place with three photographs going head to head.

However it was a beautiful photograph of the Bridge at Bangor on Dee that finally declared Geraint Roberts as the winner for February.

This is the second time Geraint has been crowned the winner of the Wrexham 2018 Calendar competition, with his snap of Anna Maria Peel Memorial Chapel at the Wrexham Road Cemetery in Overton on Dee, winning in January.

Geraint said:

“I can’t believe I’ve been successful twice. The river was particularly calm on the day I took this photograph which made for a beautiful reflection of this charming and historic bridge.

“I’m going to carry on taking my photos and maybe it will be third time lucky next week!”

Cllr Bob Dutton, Lead Member for corporate Services and Health and Safety, said:

“There’s obviously a lot of talent out there as is shown by the high quality of entries.

“Congratulations to Geraint and keep sending the entries in.”

The Wonders of Wrexham 2018 Calendar Competition was launched at the beginning of November following the news that North Wales is ranked fourth in the world of regions to visit.

Staff at the time thought it only right that Wrexham celebrated its place in the world with a snapshot record of Wrexham throughout the year.

The aim of the competition is to find the photograph taken by an amateur photographer which captures the essence of the month of entry.

Entries are now invited for February with the winner being announced early march.

The winning photographs will all be features in a Wonders of Wrexham 2018 calendar.

There’s no prize except all 12 winners will receive copies of the Wonders of Wrexham 2018 calendar when it is produced in November 2017 with their photo and name attributed.

All profits from the sale of the calendar will be donated to the Mayor’s chosen charities.

Entries can be of anywhere in the County Borough taken during the month of March and terms and conditions apply.

Photos should be submitted via email, full resolution preferred, to [email protected].

Further information and terms and conditions are available on the Council’s website at www.wrexham.gov.uk

Previous winning entries for the Wonders of Wrexham Calendar include November, December and January.
