A residential care home in Wrexham could be extended to help meet the ‘recognised need for additional care spaces’ within the area.

In an application submitted to Wrexham Council it has been proposed that the White House Residential Care Home on Grove Road is extended to provide additional accommodation to the facility.

The application has been put forward due to the ‘recognised need for additional care spaces within Wrexham to ensure the elderly are cared for’.

Details about the proposals are provided within the application’s design and access statement, which notes that the site ‘boasts ample space to extend the existing residential care home’.

If approved the extension would be added to the existing extension which was added to the White House several years ago.

The design and access statement continues onto say: “The extension will be screened from Grove Road by existing mature trees which will be retained as part of the proposal. The trees are a recognised feature of the conservation area and it is our intention to preserve the characteristics of the street scene.

“The proposed extension is to be constructed using traditional building methods and fished with render to match the existing structures. The roof is to be slated and windows glazed with Georgian styled windows to match the extension.”

It is also noted that the additions to the building will be done in a ‘sympathetic manor’ to the existing structure to ensure that its features aren’t lost.

The design and access statement concludes: “We feel this planning application should be looked favourable upon as the intention is to provide additional accommodation within the town centre for the elderly. The proposed extension would be screened by mature trees lining Grove Road.

“The screening of the extension would minimise the impact to the street scene ensuring the characteristics of the original structure are retained.

“The proposal would allow our client to provide additional accommodation to the residence of Wrexham allowing the business to continue service the community and caring for the elderly.”

The application is expected to go before Wrexham Council’s Planning Committee at a later date.
