An independent cafe with a creative twist is celebrating its third birthday this weekend – and is giving away free cupcakes to 200 customers to mark the occasion!

Located on Chester Street, EmzCakes Creative Cafe was opened in June 2014 by Emma Wilson, who had previously been running her business baking celebration and event cakes from home.

The cafe specialises in everything from bespoke cakes, to children’s parties – along with afternoon tea, sandwiches / toasties and of course, a range of delicious cupcakes.

Since opening its doors three years ago, the cafe has gone from strength to strength; becoming a firm fixture in the town’s independent business community.

Speaking to Wrexham.com Emma said the response and support the cafe has received since opening has been ‘fantastic’.

She continued: “The business has developed and grown dramatically in terms of what we offer over the last three years. This year has been our best yet and I am just so grateful for every single person who chooses to come to us and support us.

“The time has flown by and I have learnt so much and made some amazing friends for life in fellow business owners and customers. When I first decided to open the shop, a lot of people thought I was crazy and told me not to do it, but I knew it was what I wanted to do and I had to go for it.”

To celebrate its third birthday, EmzCakes is also giving away free cupcakes to the first 200 people to pop into the shop on Saturday 24th June to say Happy Birthday!

Emma said: “Every year since we opened we have always given away cupcakes on the shops birthday. It is our way of saying a huge thank you for the continued support from everyone who visits us, without them we wouldn’t be where we are today.

“We will have 200 cupcakes in pods ready to takeaway. Once they are gone they are gone! The last two years we had a queue outside in the morning waiting for the doors to open! To claim your free cupcake you just need to come in and wish us a happy birthday and we will give you a free cupcake! We open at 10.30am on Saturday.”

Emma added: “There has been a lot of negativity recently about our town, and some of these issues are really serious and shouldn’t be brushed under the carpet. I do feel that progress is being made.

“The issues we have in Wrexham are the same nationwide, but I feel that as a town we have such a strong community and it is in times like this when you can see everyone pull together to fix the problems rather than running away from them. The real sense of community is Wrexham is one of the main reasons why I chose to open here rather than say Chester.

“Running a business isn’t easy, you really have to love what you do. I think also offer something a little bit different than the rest.

“There are some amazing independent businesses in town some that have been around for years and new ones popping up all the time and I think this is the way forward. Most of us offer something different from the big brands and offer an experience that you can’t get from shopping online. I think it’s important to have a good mix.

“Wrexham is a great place to set up a business, the support you get from other local businesses is incredible. We work really hard on social media too which I think is key in bringing new custom to our business and is essential in this day and age.”
