Dog Owners Reminded of Enforcement Orders Across County Borough

Wrexham Council are reminding dog owners that ‘Dog Control Orders’ are in force throughout the county borough.

The Dog Fouling Orders mean that fixed penalty notices of £75 can be issued if you allow your dog to foul without removing the waste.

Kingdom enforcement officers, who are working on behalf of the council to issue fines for littering and dog fouling will also issue £75 Fixed Penalty Notices to dog owners allowing their dogs onto sports pitches, fenced playing areas or bowling greens.

Yesterday Wrexham.com reported that eight people have been issued Fixed Penalty Notices in the past week for letting their dogs foul / not clearing their dog’s waste.

The Dog Exclusion Orders means that dogs are not allowed on or in fenced children’s play areas, the playing areas of marked sports pitches and bowling greens.

A Dogs on Lead by Direction Order means that an authorised officer can instruct owners to place and keep a dog on a lead when necessary.

The Orders which have been in place since 2009, are in place to protect those areas used in particular by children and young people. Including football teams that hire out our football pitches.

Areas to which the Orders apply will be clearly signed.

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for the Environment and Transport, said: “The Control Orders are meant to protect the spaces where children in particular are encouraged to play. We are continuing with our zero tolerance approach towards people who disregard our open spaces.

“We are currently undertaking a consultation on Public Protection Spaces Order to replace dog control orders and I encourage all dog owners, and those who use our open spaces for their enjoyment, to take part and let us have their views.”
