A clampdown on dog fouling in Wrexham saw 10 fines issued to irresponsible dog owners last month.

In January 2017 Wrexham Council announced it was to take a ‘no-nonsense approach’ to tackling issues with dog fouling across the county borough.

As readers of Wrexham.com will know dog fouling has been an ongoing issue across the area for sometime, with many often criticising the irresponsibility of those who allow their dogs to foul on pavements and country parks.

In a bid to tackle the problem Kingdom Security enforcement officers, acting on behalf of Wrexham Council, have increased their patrols of key hotspots to both deter and catch those who still refuse to pick up after their dog has fouled.

Wrexham Council are now reminding all dog owners that enforcement action continues alongside Kingdom Security, after members of the public got in touch to alert enforcement teams of dog fouling hotspots in their respective communities.

Cllr David A. Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and transport, said: “I’m very pleased to see members of the public have come back to use and notified enforcement teams of those areas where dog fouling has taken place.

“Anyone who wishes to report an area where they feel irresponsible owners are repeatedly failing to pick up after their pets can get in touch with Pride In Your Streets on 01978 298989.

“When reporting such incidents, members of the public should provide the street name/location of the offence, and any idea they may have of the best time to attend the area, so as to find any dog owners failing to clean up after their animals.”

At the start of March Wrexham Council introduced a new Public Space Protection Order, which details new requirements which dog owners must follow. These include:

–

Remove their dogs’ faeces from all public places within the county borough.

–

Exclude dogs from bowling green playing surfaces, the playing areas of marked sports pitched and fenced children’s play areas, skate parks, tennis courts and multi-use games areas. (Owners with assisted dogs are excluded)

– Place their dogs on a lead when directed by an Authorised Officer.

– Place their dogs on a lead around visitor centres and car parks in the parks and bowling greens.

–

Place their dogs on a lead on a public road and pavement.
