Last month we were the first to report that parts of the old Groves School were to be demolished. This process has taken a step forward with the formal submission of demolition plans to Wrexham Council – by the Council themselves.

The application details the buildings to be removed:

  • The five story main block building.
  • Sports Hall
  • Science Block
  • The old gym
  • Caretakers bungalow in the grounds.

The method of demolition is also given, which is all quite straightforward stripping and dismantling – so there will be no explosions or the like!

The older Girls School buildings will be retained and do not come under these plans. They have covenants on them to ensure they only get used for educational purposes.

Recently ugly metal plates have been attached to the older buildings to secure them, we took a night out with the council’s Incident Response Service recently and experienced first hand why this is needed. You can read that report by clicking here.
