The demolition of a building which was once home to a local electronics company has begun.

The former T.E Roberts store on King Street, which has been a well known fixture in Wrexham Town Centre for several years has started to be demolished.

Work on demolishing the site has been ongoing for a while, with the removal of ram raider bollards late in 2014 and the removal of any remaining items from the building.

Earlier this month fencing and ‘warning signs’ were put up around the building as preparation began on the overall demolition.

In a photo taken earlier this week work has begun on removing the top floors of the shop, with only the frame and the ground / first floor remaining.

Back in January 2014 we reported that an application had been submitted by Unite The Union to convert the store into District Office space. The new property would also have space for meeting rooms, training rooms and a staff room.

Initial plans for the property involved converting the former electronics store into office space, however in October 2014 it was revealed that further proposals had been put forward to demolish the building.

In the application submitted by Unite, the Design and Access Statement noted: “Subsequent investigation of the structure and changes to Unite’s requirement for the building have led to the current proposal to replace this existing building with a new building fit for future.”

When the demolition is complete the site will be used to erect a modern, three storey building.
