A number of staff at the Wrexham JCB plant were told today that they had lost their jobs.

Earlier on this afternoon a Wrexham.com reader got in touch informing us that around 40 staff from the Wrexham plant had been told that they were losing their jobs. However a spokesperson at JCB has told us although there are job losses, that the number of people affected is less than 40.

The plant which is based on the Wrexham Industrial Estate employs around 500 people. In May 2012 Wrexham.com reported that the transmissions plant took on more than 40 new members of staff due to ‘a rise in global demand’ which was ‘due was due to healthy exports which account for 75% of business’.

In March of last year JCB also announced a £2 million investment in machine tools in the factory. You can read our report from last May hhere.

It is not known if it is the same number of workers who are being affected by the lay offs.

JCB spokesman said: “Due to a seasonal softening in demand, a number of agency employees will be released at the end of September.”
