Cyclist Killed In Crash Near Gresford

A cyclist was killed following a fatal collision near Gresford on Saturday.

Shortly after 7.30pm on Saturday police received a report that a cyclist had been found on the roadside under a railway bridge on Griffin Hill in Gresford.

Police officers and the ambulance service attended and the 52-year-old male cyclist, who is local to the area, was taken to the Wrexham Maelor Hospital with serious injuries.

Sadly he passed away last night.

Thomas Williams tweeted us on Saturday night regarding the incident, he said: “Griffin Hill Railway bridge is sectioned off by police. Possible bridge strike or car accident.”

The road was closed between Gresford and Llay whilst collision investigators examined the scene and re-opened shortly after 10pm.

The cyclist was riding a blue Peugeot pedal cycle and was travelling along Gresford Road towards Llay.

Anybody who may have seen the cyclist prior to the collision, or anybody who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact North Wales Police on 101 quoting reference number N132682.
