There are less than two weeks left for residents to have their say on controversial plans to introduce parking charges for country park visitors and parking for Blue Badge holders.

The statutory consultation, which readers will be fully aware of launched earlier this month, comes as a result of Wrexham Council’s approved budget for the next 12 months.

Currently Blue Badge holders can park for free in council-operated car parks in Wrexham. However a report presented to the board this morning propose that disabled parking charges are brought “in line with non-disabled tariffs across all Wrexham County Borough Council-operated car parks where charges apply.”

A concessionary extra hour would also be available for Blue Badge holders. For example, those paying for a three-hour stay would be able to park for four hours.

It also also proposed that a £1 a day parking fee at Alyn Waters (Llay and Gwersyllt), Ty Mawr and Nant Mill.

A concessionary annual parking permit of £50.00 which could be used across the three sites, would also be introduced.

At last month’s Executive Board it was announced that the consultation would be circulated in the ‘local press’ – which as usual turned out to be a four page statutory notice at the back of The Leader costing several hundred if not thousands of pounds.

We asked Wrexham Council where else it had been published, as per the comment in the meeting.

We also asked if Cllr Bithell was aware of the cost of the advert, and if he was aware of the latest circulations of the local press it was printed in, and if it was a legally complaint process and figure.

We had no reply to the questions.

We have not had a copy of the below information to be able to present it to you in more detail either, for free.

If you were one of the thousands locally who didn’t see it and still wants to take part in the consultation period and have their say on the proposed changes to country park and Blue Badge parking can send their feedback to in writing to:

The Head of Environment and Planning, Environment Department, Abbey Road South, Wrexham Industrial Estate, LL13 9PW

Alternatively you can email your response to: [email protected]

Responses much be submitted by March 29th 2018. If given the go ahead, the new parking charges are expected to be in place at the start of April.
