Wrexham Council have been in touch to tell us that they are planning to honour Tom James in a homecoming event to recognise his achievement in the London 2012 Olympics and Beijing 2008 Olympics.

Tom has won two Olympic gold medals, plus a gold and two bronze medals in the rowing World Championships plus another gold medal in the 2011 Munich World Cup plus has won the Boat Race once in 2007.

Cllr Neil Rogers, Leader of Wrexham Council said: “Everyone in Wrexham is immensely proud of Tom James, Chris Bartley and Vicky Thornley and their heroic efforts at London 2012. Tom now joins a select band of people that have won two Olympic Gold medals and we are exploring a number of options on how best to celebrate his fantastic achievement.

“A meeting will take place on Monday when an announcement will be made.”

Tom has also had a nationally avalible stamp made in his honour, plus a postbox has been painted gold on Town Hill! We popped down and have videos and pictures of the painting of the letterbox here.
