Wrexham Council are preparing for “significant” and “disruptive” snowfalls tomorrow, after tackling the overnight flurries, with residents also being advised to check in on neighbours – especially any elderly, disabled or vulnerable residents.

Wrexham Council told us: “We gritted yesterday, overnight and into today as conditions dictated. We are expecting a very cold evening with ice being the major hazard in the morning and we’ll continue to grit to ensure routes as safe as possible.

“Drivers and pedestrians are encouraged to take extra care and allow extra time for journeys.”

A bin update was also provided, noting residents in Rhosddu, Gresford, parts of Brymbo and Minera, the Nant Coedpoeth and Caego are who haven’t had their bins emptied today are asked to leave them out as the council will do their best to pick them up tomorrow.

For those with bins due tomorrow the message is to bins out as usual and the council will do their best to pick them all up before the snow arrives.

The current forecasts the council are using have snow arriving about 3pm tomorrow afternoon, “We’re expecting more snow tomorrow and it’s likely to be ‘significant’ and ‘disruptive’.”

The Council added: “Like all other local authorities We don’t grit or plough every road but we do make sure that our main roads are cleared as soon as possible. This can sometimes be difficult particularly if snow continues to fall.

“Snow and ice can also cause disruptions to your bin service as driving a huge vehicle on narrow roads can be dangerous to both the crew and also the public. Occasionally bin collections will be stopped in a particular area for this reason. When we can we send the gritter out before the bin wagon to make sure we can continue for as long as possible.”

Cllr Joan Lowe, Lead Member for Health and Adult Social Care, said: “There are many people in our communities who struggle during the colder months, and we shouldn’t underestimate just how much of a difference a small thing can make to someone’s life.

“There are so many easy ways to help – help with the shopping, taking a hot meal or just calling in for a chat. We are asking that residents take just a couple of minutes to check on neighbours, friends and relatives.”

At the time of writing (5pm Wednesday) the Met Office forecast for Wrexham town tomorrow has a low of -4C at 7am with temperatures nudging just above zero in the afternoon, with no snow or rain predicted as of yet by them.

The Met Office does have a Yellow weather warning for snow and ice in place from 1pm tomorrow through Friday, that states: “Snow and ice may bring disruption to parts of England and Wales from Thursday afternoon through to late Friday.” There is no snow showing as of yet on the Met Office forecast for Friday.

As with all weather forecasts they are subject to change and as usual we will keep you updated!
