The Council’s Executive Board will receive the ‘Quarter Two Performance Report’ from Malcolm King, the Lead Member for Policy, Finance, Performance and Governance. This is a report giving actual performance as compared to the Council’s plan.

Highlights include:

  • Good progress being made on the Western Gateway
  • New measure developed on footfall in the town centre and shows 2% increase on last quarter.
  • There has been a 2.9% reduction in housing emissions which will.
  • Further increase next year due to PV installations.
  • There has been a reduction in the number of recorded crimes.
  • The contact Centre achieved 100% satisfaction with face to face and telephone services in Quarter Two. The year to date figures are 91% for telephone satisfaction and 100% for face to face.
  • Q2 recycling figures are expected to be top quartile.

Cllr King said the footfall figures were “surprising considering the economic backdrop”. Wrexham.com has asked for clarification on the footfall figure, in terms of how it is measured and what the 2% actually means in numbers of people.

The ‘not so good’ points include:

  • The proportion of pupils achieving the Level 2 Threshold including English or Cymraeg and Maths has fallen.
  • Obesity levels have increased.
  • Whilst the provisions of new Affordable homes is currently above target, annual targets will not be met.
  • There has been a dip in customer satisfaction with emails compared with Q1, although this is still showing an improvement on 2011/12.

Cllr Rogers said “The Recycle With Michael  scheme is important for future generations”. He reminded everyone that “If those who do not recycle just recycled one newspaper and one bottle we would achieve a 2% increase in recycling rate and meet our targets”.

Such targets were put into £ terms as there are penalties of around £1000 a tonne of waste if they are not met. He went to say “The targets are due to increase annually , so this will save us money so please play your very small part. We have no right as individuals to keep burying waste in the ground.”

Cllr Pritchard said “We made a moral choice to go away from landfill sites, we made a political decision in Wrexham to hit our targets and its a credit to the people of Wrexham that we have.”

“We save money and reinvest in other services”.
