A commemorative and poignant performance based on a true story of woman’s remarkable courage and daring during the First World War, is to be performed in Wrexham next month.

‘Dorothy’s War’ is to be staged in the concert hall of Llay Royal British Legion, in Llay on Thursday 19th May at 7.30pm as part of a regional tour with all proceeds from the show at the Llay venue going to the Poppy Appeal.

As commemorations for the First World War continue, including the upcoming centenary of The Somme and the Battle of Jutland, a show which combines a true story of bravery and daring with the much loved songs of the period is to take to the stage to raise much needed funds for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Performed by Chester based Singer-actress trio ‘The Harmonettes’ and produced by BAFTA nominated writer and director Janys Chambers, “Dorothy’s War” is set in 1919 and is based on a little-known but extraordinary true story of daring and courage in the years before during the First World War.

The story is told through the fabulous songs of the day, from much-loved favourites to forgotten gems, all performed live by The Harmonettes, fresh from the success of their previous show ‘The Harmonettes Go into Orbit’ which received a 5 star review at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Charles Wright, Chairman of Llay RBL Branch Committee said: “We are delighted that the show is coming to Llay as we commemorate the centenary of two major events of The First World War and remember the sacrifices made by those who gave their lives for our freedom 100 years ago.

“We hope to raise as much money as possible on the night for the Poppy Appeal so we can continue the much needed support and care of current serving armed forces, veterans and their families.”

Tickets for ‘Dorothy’s War’ are £5 and available from Llay Royal British Legion or by telephone on 01978 853591
