Clwyd South’s MP is to present a petition opposing the closure of a village Post Office to Parliament tomorrow.

Susan Elan Jones MP will present a petition in Parliament on behalf of her constituents in the Maelor area in a bid to protect access to vital, local postal services in Bangor-on-Dee.

Earlier this month Wrexham.com reported that the village Post Office, located in the Middle Shop in Bangor-on-Dee is due to close.

At the time a spokesperson for the Post Office said the closure was ‘temporary’ and that it was investigating the options available to allow for the service to be reinstated.

However the Clwyd South MP has criticised the Post Office’s decision, stating that the local businesses are “at the heart of the community and the national Post Office should treat them properly.”
Susan Elan Jones MP said: “I share my constituents’ very real concerns that they are going to permanently lose their vital Post Office and banking services.

“This will have a disastrous effect on this rural community whereby residents, a great many of whom are elderly, will need to travel miles to manage their finances or to simply buy a stamp”.
