A major investment into a Wrexham primary school has been welcomed by the Assembly Member for Clwyd South.

Ysgol Penycae recently underwent a multi-million pound refurbishment; bringing together the school’s infants and junior schools under one roof for the first time.

A total of £2.6 million has been spent on the new build and revamp, which boasts four new classrooms, a new hall, improved kitchen facilities and a playground area.

It celebrated its official opening earlier this month.

The works were carried out under 21st Century School funding from the Welsh Government which was match funded by Wrexham Council.

The refurb has been welcomed by Clwyd South AM, Ken Skates said: “I’m proud that Welsh Government investment is producing tangible benefits for children in Clwyd South and I’m thoroughly looking forward to visiting Ysgol Penycae in a couple of weeks to see the new facilities first-hand.

“This programme represents the largest investment in Welsh schools and colleges since the 1960s and will help achieve the Welsh Government’s aim of raising standards and delivering an education system that is a source of national pride and public confidence.”

Mr Skates added: “I’m delighted that the Welsh Government is investing in the future of children in Clwyd South I’m looking forward to catching up with headteacher Tim Newbould and his team soon.”
