Cllr Bill Baldwin has resigned from the Executive Board of Wrexham Council.

Cllr Baldwin had previously voluntarily stepped down ‘pending’ the outcome of an investigation into a series of posts shared by him on Facebook.

The Facebook posts in question included a meme originally circulated by the West London branch of the far-right British Nationalist Party, along with a separate image titled “How the British have passively succumbed to the Muslim invasion”.

Meanwhile, a comment shared from his profile written by another Facebook user said: “Many immigrants do contribute to UK society however clearly the majority of Muslim immigrants don’t”.

Today’s resignation was made known in a notification sent out to all Wrexham Councillors today, “The Chief Officer Governance & Customer has received written notice that Councillor William Baldwin has resigned from the Executive Board and his role as Lead Member for People – Children’s Services.

“Councillor Joan Lowe is taking on this portfolio on an interim basis, in addition to her role as Lead Member for People – Health and Adult Social Care.”

There is no indication on if the investigation has been completed, nor any timescale given to it, or what the public outputs will be.

Executive Board Members with Lead Responsibility receive remuneration of £29,300 whereas councillors without such roles get a basic pay of £13,600.

Cllr Baldwin remains the Councillor for Little Acton, and also remains a member of Cllr David A Bithell’s Wrexham Independent Group.
