Christmas stockings packed with useful goodies have been handed to Wrexham’s night shelter for homeless people, thanks to the generosity of a local construction firm.

Staff from BAAS Construction, based in Gwersyllt, put together 10 festive stockings, filling them with toiletries, a hat, scarf, gloves and socks as well as a chocolate orange for those using the Tŷ Nos night shelter.

Louise Blackwell, community development officer for Clwyd Alyn Housing Association – who manage the emergency accommodation centre for both male and female homeless people which is open every night of the year – said the stockings “will be very much appreciated by those using the service over Christmas”.

She added: “It was a brilliant surprise when Julie Ferns and Shirley White, resident liaison officers with BAAS, contacted us and offered to call in with the stockings as part of the firm’s commitment to the local community in Wrexham.”
