Plans to amalgamate two Chirk schools are set to go before Wrexham Council’s executive board next Tuesday.

Members of the board will be asked to approve the publication of Statutory Notices to discontinue Chirk Infant and Ceiriog Junior Schools and to establish a new 3-11 Community Primary School from 1st September 2012 using the same buildings.

An informal consultation has already taken place between April and September this year involving parents, staff and governors at both schools.

In total six responses were received with two in favour of the amalgamation, the council said that the position of the other responses had been unclear.

Both governing bodies responded to the consultation; Chirk infants were unanimously in favour whilst the majority of Ceiriog Junior School governors supported on the condition that the headship be externally advertised.

If the proposals are given the go ahead on Tuesday the formal objection period will begin and staffing matters will be down to the temporary governing body.

Cllr David Bithell said that the proposals were in line with council policy to amalgamate schools wherever possible.

In recent years Wrexham Council has amalgamated a total of 11 schools.
