A bookmakers in Garden Village has been subject to an attempted or actual robbery this evening, with staff thankfully unharmed. There is no official detail from police as of yet. Updates are below:

9:28pm White suited Crime Scene Investigation officers have been at work on Chester Road itself, and in the area infront of and around the Garden Village shops. The investigation appears to have completed, with the team leaving shortly before the road reopened.

9:18pm Police Officer at the scene has just confirmed to us that the road has reopened, with tape being taken down.

9:15pm Police tape is still across Chester Road blocking the road northbound out of town, with a diversion set up for those coming into town with traffic being pointed down Glyndwr Avenue.

8:40pm The road remains closed off with investigation work taking place.

8:20pm Gem has sent us this image of the shops including the Coral bookmakers, which appears to have been subject to a robbery around closing time. The bus stop area of Garden Village is also cordoned off along with Chester Road, with the armed police unit also in attendance.

Update 8:10pm An incident took place at the local bookmakers with two local residents who were around the shops at the time telling us how they saw a damaged motorbike, or moped, after the incident. The area around the shops has been described as being in ‘lockdown’ by one resident. We are told staff are thankfully uninjured.

Update 7:45pm Several residents reported hearing sirens just before 7pm with two initially thinking there had been a crash due to damage to a car, and a motorbike on the floor. It appears there has been an incident at the nearby shops, with police investigations taking place.

Update 7:25pm Police have said, “Chester Road and Kenyon Avenue in Garden Village are closed while we deal with an ongoing incident. Please use alternative routes if possible”.
