Distribution of new recycling boxes and bags to 47,000 properties across the county borough is to begin at the end of the month.

From August 29th households in Wrexham will be given a new black box for collecting glass bottles and jars and a new blue bag for collecting paper and all forms of card and cardboard.

There will also no longer be a need to put cardboard into the green bin and the existing green box will be used for plastics, tins and cans.

These new changes will allow households to recycle more items, including plastic pots, tubs and trays and there will be a new kerbside textile collection service introduced.

The new service begins on 3rd October.

The roll out forms Phase 3 of Wrexham Council’s ongoing improvements to its recycling service to make sure households are well equipped to recycle more.

Wrexham’s current recycling rate is 62% – exceeding Welsh Government’s 58% target.

Speaking about the further changes to local recycling services, Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for the Environment and Transport, said: “We are committed to improving our front line services in Wrexham and we are excited about our strive towards being a top performing Council in Wales.

“I am pleased that the review is already bringing improvements to residents as seen by the positive response to the recent Wheelie Box and Food Caddy roll outs.

“Residents in Wrexham have embraced recycling since our original rollout in 2003 and I would like to thank them all for enabling us to reach our latest 62% recycling figure.”

Phase 4 of the improvements will involve changes to the bin collection day for some areas to improve efficiency so householders are asked to look out for further details about this.

Changes to recycling services in Wrexham began in May 2016 when Wrexham Council rolled out stackable ‘wheelie boxes’ to 13,000 households. Earlier this month the authority also began distributing 20,000 food caddies to homes across the county borough.
