Students at Coleg Cambria’s Yale campus have achieved a staggering 99.3% A Level pass rate.

The Wrexham centre continues to go from strength to strength, and with a £20m redevelopment set to be completed in 2020, Chief Executive David Jones said the future looks bright.

Yale has produced many A Level success stories this year, among them Jacob Burford, who will study Marine Biology at Bangor University from September after receiving three A*s in Maths, Biology and Physics, and an A in Chemistry.

Jacob, who attended Ysgol Rhosnesni, said: “I’m so pleased. There’s not much more I could ask for really. I’m looking forward to university – it’s a dream come true.”

Owain Williams – who last year attended a prestigious summer scholarship programme at Yale University in Connecticut, US – is heading to the University of St Andrew’s in Scotland with three A*s in the Welsh Baccalaureate Skills Challenge Certificate (SCC), Maths and Further Maths, and As in Physics and Chemistry.

Another delighted recipient was Edan Jackson – who received the Academic Excellence Award at Cambria’s Student Awards earlier this year – with three A*s in Maths, Biology and Chemistry, and As in Art and the SCC. The ex Ysgol Clywedog pupil will join Oxford University in September.

Among the other successful students were Skye Jones, who will study Theology at Oxford University having secured A grades in Religious Studies, Politics and English Literature; Cara Bird, a former St Joseph’s High School pupil who will go on to take Dentistry at Leeds University thanks to two A*s and an A, and Daniel Gaughran, Millie Jones and Abbie Whiting, who all achieved two A*s and two As.

The latter, who attended Ysgol Clywedog, will study Medicine at Cardiff University, and thanked staff at the college for their support over the years.

Cara is looking forward to the next chapter in her journey, and said: “I’m so happy with my results and can’t wait to begin my Dentistry course. I really enjoyed my time at the college as it really suited the way I studied.

“They let me be independent, but I was also supported throughout to get the grades I wanted. I’m so glad I came here.”

Skye added: “I’m surprised and really delighted. Coleg Cambria has taken me from mediocre GCSE results to Oxford University.

“With the support of the wonderful staff at Cambria you can apply yourself to do anything you want. I’ll always be grateful to them.”

Chief Executive David Jones congratulated the students on another remarkable set of A Level results and said: “I never fail to be amazed by the hard work and dedication shown by all of our learners.

“To stay at the top year after year and continually achieve such high standards is testament to our colleagues at Yale, who not only guide the students academically but allow them to learn and grow in a warm, welcoming environment. It’s truly brilliant.”

Mr Jones added: “Work is well underway on the redevelopment of Yale, which will be a huge asset to both Coleg Cambria and the community of Wrexham.

“There has never been a better time to join the college, and to those leaving us, we wish you the best of luck for the future.”

Principal Sue Price echoed those words and said: “It’s been another outstanding A Level results day for us. Well done to all of the students, you are a credit to the college, and we know you will all go on to great things.”
