A day-long carnival packed full of activities and celebrations has been announced for the grand opening of Wrexham’s new markets and arts facility.

Taking place on Easter Monday, 2nd April, from midday until late, Dydd Llun Pawb (Everybody’s Monday) brings back a Wrexham Victorian tradition of locals descending on the town for a day of festivities on the Monday following the annual Spring Market.

Organised by the team behind FOCUS Wales, the jam-packed programme of events will mark the official launch of Tŷ Pawb – Wrexham’s new multi-million pound facility located in the former Peoples Market in the biggest budget single day event we can remember for the town centre.

Details of Dydd Llun Pawb have today been announced, with organisers promising a day of live music, fairground stalls, food, drink, arts and crafts.

The celebratory event will kick off with a huge parade led by North Wales’ self-proclaimed ‘brass band with attitude’ Band Pres Llareggub Brass Band.

The Victorian event apparently had Venetian gondolas, lions and underwater tanks with escapologists – the more modern 2018 version will feature six giant sculptures, representing six different aspects of Wrexham’s history and community, and members of the town’s many charities, youth and community groups, each celebrating their own special contributions to Wrexham.

The parade will make its way through the town centre from the meeting point of Hope Street and High Street, through Queen’s Square, and into Tŷ Pawb where the centre will be declared open.

A whole host of activities will also take place throughout the day inside Tŷ Pawb and along Chester Street – where visitors will be able to enjoy a fairground stall with a Victorian twist, arts, crafts and food and drink.

The team behind Wrexham’s popular ‘Playday’ event will be on hand with a children’s playground, along with Techniquest Glyndwr’s StarDome Planetarium. During the day there will live music from The Big Beat, Wrexham Community Choir, Baby Brave and the Black Park Accordion Club, with organisers saying that there will be many more acts and activities to be announced soon.

Visitors will also have the chance to have a nose around the centre’s new facilities, with Tŷ Pawb staff members on hand to assist throughout the day.

The day of celebrations will draw to a close with a spectacular fireworks display over the town centre.

Speaking about the event, organiser Neal Thompson said: ‘We’re really excited to announce the activities for Dydd Llun Pawb and the opening of Tŷ Pawb.

“We’re expecting a great gathering of people from Wrexham and the surrounding areas, It’s going to be a busy, fun filled day for all the family.”

Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Communities, Partnership, Public Protection and Community Safety, said: “We’re thrilled to announce the programme activities to the public.

“Tŷ Pawb will be a place the whole community can enjoy, a place to eat, drink, shop, study and relax, and we’re very much looking forward to opening its doors to show the people of Wrexham and further afield all that it has to offer.”

Dydd Llun Pawb will be free to attend and open to all. For all enquiries email [email protected]/?s=ty+pawb&post_type=post&order_by=date
