Daily parking fees are to be introduced to users of a car park at Ruabon Train Station.

Members of Wrexham’s Executive Board yesterday voted in favour of introducing a daily parking fee for rail users at the Ruabon Station.

Lead Member for Environment and Public Protection, Councillor David A Bithell said: “Passenger numbers and growth has increased each year since 2002 and that’s a significant amount of passenger numbers.

“The car park is normally at full capacity by 9am, have had cases of abuse where people catch the bus and leave the car at the station. Need to define these arrangements and make better use of car parks.”

From April 1st 2015 a fee of £2 a day will be introduced to the car park, with a six month season ticket costing £200. Blue Badge holders will be exempt from the charges.

Councillor for Penycae and Ruabon South, Joan Lowe said: “I am content with what’s been proposed. I feel the whole area needs to be looked at and I will keep my eye on the situation and will feedback any concerns I have to the lead member.”

Queries were also raised regarding traffic issues on the road outside the station, with Councillor Derek Wright adding: “Could I ask if the parking charges could be added on the road outside the station as well, as it gets very congested. Would rather see parking spaces on the road.”

Members were told that existing traffic regulation orders are being looked into and officers will be undertaking the full review.
