It was a busy night for fire crews in Wrexham last night who were called to four arson attacks within five hours.

Shortly after 8pm last night North Wales Fire and Rescue Service were called to a ‘rubbish fire’ in Gwenfro.

The fire was out on arrival and the cause is thought to be deliberate ignition.

A few hours later at 10:02pm one crew from Wrexham attended a gorse fire on Berse Road.

One hose reel jet was used to extinguish the blaze, which was started deliberately.

Just over an hour later crews were called to an arson attack in Queensway, where a quantity of discarded furniture had been set on fire.

In the early hours of the morning one crew from Wrexham was called to a car fire on Hazel Drive in Gwersyllt.

The fire was ‘well alight’ when the crew arrived and one hose reel jet was used to extinguish the blaze.

Damage to the vehicle was confined to the engine compartment and the cause of the fire is thought to be deliberate ignition.

Back in June 2016 it was announced that 24 firefighter jobs were at risk in Wrexham – with North Wales Fire and Rescue Authority proposing that one appliance is cut from the area.

A consultation on the proposed reduction in fire appliances in Wrexham is set to begin this Autumn.
