Calon FM are inviting all budding radio presenters and producers to take part in their ‘Free Introduction to Radio’ course.

Starting on August 6 the course, which is now in its fifth year will run over the course of four weeks.

The course covers production techniques, studio practise, playback systems, script writing, interview and microphone techniques, using portable recorders, news production.

At the end of the course, each participant will have produced a 1 hour radio pilot for the station.

Many of the people who have completed the course in the past, go on to present shows with us, or volunteer on a regular basis.

People also use the course to boost their Cvs or gain more experience before starting university courses

This year students on the course will have the opportunity to use Calon’s new studio facilities.

Funding from AVOW, People’s Postcode Trust & the Big Lottery Fund has allowed Calon to build a 2nd studio. This will be used for training purposes and uses the same software as the main studio. This will allow people the time and space to become comfortable in an ‘as live’ studio environment before moving onto doing live work in the main studio.
